Covalent Organic Frameworks (COFs) Pyrene Ligand

An ethynyl functional ligand linker for COFs in application of photocatalyst, fluorescent sensors and 2,4,6-trinitrophenol detection

1-Ethynylpyrene (CAS number 34993-56-1) is consisted of pyrene with an ethynyl functional group at 1-position. 1-Ethynylpyrene is often featured as a fluorescent probe in MOFs and COFs.

Prepared by post-synthesis of UIO-66-NH2 via an efficient click reaction with 1-ethynylpyrene, highly fluorescent UIO-66-Py-MOF was employed for 2,4,6-trinitrophenol (TNP) detection with significantly enhanced fluorescence intensity. It showed great selectivity and sensitivity for sensing TNP in solution via the fluorescence quenching mechanism. The UIO-66-Py showed an 85% fluorescence quenching efficiency with 0.203 mM TNP and low detection limit of 4.5 x 10−7 M.

Highly organized helical π-stacked arrangement of 1-ethynylpyrene moieties along the major groove of duplex DNA can be achieved should more than three chromophores be synthetically incorporated adjacent to each other.
